MINERALISATION IN DETAIL

ORIGINS OF MINERALISATION

Flow diagram showing the possible fluid migration pathways in the Cheshire Basin. (Source: redrawn from Naylor et al).  Some interesting questions remain such as why the difference between the mid/west-Cheshire deposits and the east Cheshire deposits.  At the latter, lead is found in quantity which is not present in the west.

(Left) Mineralisation in situ. the photograph shows a section of roof in Engine Vein where a primeval flood has disturbed a cracked-mud floor and copper carbonates have penetrated around the clay clasts (i.e fragments).  Malachite is also visible in the laminations of the sandstone.
