Bronze age workings
at Engine Vein. The smooth and lighter coloured areas in the
centre of the picture are the walls of a Bronze Age mine at Engine
Vein. The rougher rock on each side is later working, probably
mediaeval. The bronze Age working would have been a shallow pit and
archaeologists in the early 20th century found stone hammers below it.
Other Bronze Age workings are probable at Stormy Point and Brynlow. (Left) Stormy Point. Similar pits between Doc and Pillar Mines.
Many thousands of people must have climbed down past these without realising
that they are touching a surface originally mined four millennia ago.
