DCC GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY PAGE

The DCC was formed at the very end of 1960 out of part of the Orpheus Caving Club.  The OCC had been divided into a northern and a southern group about two years previously  and both parts called themselves the Orpheus during that period.  This caused some confusion and it was decided to formally refer to the Northern section as the Derbyshire Caving Club at a meeting between the two groups in December 1960.

The first formal meeting of the DCC was probably the AGM on 6th May 1961 but the Club had already published a newsletter (No 1) so it is probably reasonable to say that the Club was formed in 1960.  So we are celebrating the 50th year in 2010.  Does it really matter anyway?

Various ideas are being kicked around at the moment and, in typical DCC style, we'll have a good time but it might not be the best prepared event!  Some of the ideas are:

New Mills carnival 1974

With our new chairman taking a lead on this, any ideas should be sent to him in the first place.  You can e-mail him at

As the plans develop, we will add more detail on this page or in the Club events list.  Keep watching this space.
