At Alderley Edge…

While the major excavations to open up mines have reduced, work still continues in isolated areas such as at Reeking Mine in the Hough. This dig which cleared the entrance passage and a blockage below a shaft revealed workings from three periods of Alderley Edge mining: 18th century, early 19th century and late 19th century. One of the finds was a wooden box to lift ore out of the mine. Connection was also made with the "Twin Shafts" proving that they are in fact twin shafts.
