Developments in the mines
1863-1866
At Alderley Edge…
In this period, the mines were developed with the workings in West Mine crossing the "Great Slide", the fault in Sphinx Chamber. Wood Mine was probably opened during this time and in 1865 there was a visit to the mines by Japanese businessmen who were the guests of the new Macclesfield-based management. Also, in 1866, the mines were extended through Brynlow to Engine Vein and GL marked his initials in Brynlow Mine near thouse of JW from 1764.
