Capping and clearing mines
1981-1988
At Alderley Edge…
Engien Vein was capped in 1981 after the National Trust realised that it presented a considerable risk to public safety. It was added to the DCC's lease. In 1982, Brylow Mine was opened from the surface and in 1985 Square Shaft was cleared. This made it possible to relocate and re-open the entrance to the Hough Level below Stormy Point.
